![]() Milestone Birthdays We turn, not older with years, but newer every day. —Emily Dickinson Some people love birthdays and celebrate every year. Some special birthdays need special attention, when they symbolize turning points in our life cycle. We can create a ceremony for any significant birthday, a time to appreciate where you came from and look towards your exciting future. Some major milestones: Turning 13. A Coming of Age ceremony encourages a young adult to think about what matters to him or her, find a voice, and be recognized by the community in a new role. Create a ceremony which allows her or him to set “childhood” behind and welcome “adulthood.” Turning 30/40. After years of exploring careers, schools, relationships, parenting, travel, and more, we often reach a point of reassessment. What have we learned? What did we mean to be when we grew up? A ceremony at a significant birthday here can help focus you and acknowledge all you have learned. Invite those who have been with you on the path, ask for their blessings and share your hopes for the future. Turning 60. We all have different definitions of aging, but there is a surprising threshold we reach when one day we feel “older.” It is another time of taking stock, welcoming wisdom, gathering family and celebrating our achievements. Wear something special, create a life scrapbook, give tokens of love to your family, take a trip. Honor your wonderful journey and all that is to come! info@meaningfulcelebrations.com © 2006 Cindy Matchett |
