![]() Home Blessings and Leavings Whether you live in an apartment surrounded by buildings or a temple surrounded by mountains, your space is sacred. By being aware and conscious of each element in your environment, you can create a place to manifest your dreams and to enhance the quality of your life. —R.D. Chin, Creating Sacred Space Moving can be a very topsy-turvy time for people. Packing, sorting, saying goodbye to familiar places and spaces is emotional and can be traumatic, even if you are excited about where you are going. Ceremony has powerful healing and transformative potential, especially when it is designed around the individuals it serves. House Blessing and Leaving ceremonies address the whole family’s concerns as they let go of their old home and move joyfully into their new one. “Good-bye” ceremonies could include gathering at the old house, lighting a candle which will then be brought to the new house for continuity, and spending a few moments as a family in each room, sharing brief favorite memories of the space, and ending with creating a “wishbox” for what could happen at the new house. “Welcoming” Ceremonies at the new house could include planting a tree, saying a family blessing at the front door, sharing a potluck meal with extended family and friends, or creating a “House Book” for keeping stories and memories over time.
